1) Identify Your Skills
You should find a side hustle that works for you, so a good place to start is by listing your skills to identify which ones can be monetised. Not every skill is something that someone will pay you to do, so try and find a niche skill that could benefit others, but is not something that a lot of people can do. For example, it could be something creative (like art or graphic design) or a practical skill (like fixing computers). If you can find a way to monetise an existing hobby, even better!
2) Do Your Research
By doing some research on the industry that your skills fall into, you can get a sense of whether your side hustle has scope to be monetised and what rates you should be charging. Look at the competition in your area for the skill or hobby you could potentially offer as a service and see if there is room in the market for your business. You should also research the time you'll need to set aside to work on this side hustle - and whether you can commit to it!
3) Make A Plan
Finally, it's important to remember that a side hustle should not take over your life and leave you with no time to rest or relax! Find something that fits around your schedule and create a plan in advance of when you'll work on it so you don't become overwhelmed. A side hustle is ideally something you do in your spare time alongside your 9-5 job, so set aside a few hours in the evening, or at the weekend, to make it work.
Finding your perfect side hustle may be a lengthy process, but it's a great way to diversify your income and protect your finances.
